We've been in Wichita for about three years now, and today was the first time we ever ventured to
Tanganyika. We've been to the zoo probably a million times (ish), and I thought Tanganyika was about the same, only with fewer animals. Sure, I knew there were cool hands-on experiences, but all of them cost tokens (which are $1 each)...and without those, I figured it would be a better use of admission money to see a more extensive zoo.
Now I'm sorry! (But I'm SOOO glad we were able to go today!!)
It also helped that, since it's Memorial Day weekend, military got in for free (with an ID). We still had to pay for 3/5 of our kids, but still...pretty awesome! :)
Most of the pictures speak for themselves, so I'll just narrate through them.
| See the little baby giraffe on the far left? Aww... |
| White Tiger |
| Random duck |
| Julia and Daddy waiting to see the lemurs |
| Mama lemur and a baby...there were actually several babies. So cute! We walked around the whole park with no tokens first, and then went back after lunch to feed the ones that were our favorites. There will be more pictures of these guys at the end. :) |
| The boys liked climbing/sitting on the rocks and watching the fish as much as anything else, I think! |
| A penguin and Emily |
| Gibbons |
| Kangaroos! |
| This is April, the kangaroo. She loved our stroller. :) |
| Then, with Katy's help, April painted a 'Thank You' card for Scott for Memorial Day! |
| April pushed on the lever to move the paintbrush (and receive treats.) |
| Katy held the card for her. |
| A round of applause for Katy! :) |
| Katy giving April a thank you pat on the back |
| The finished product! |
| A (not-so-small) baby kangaroo and his mama. |

| Julia crashed |
| Lorikeet |
| Kookaburra |
| Leopards |
| I don't remember what kind of monkey/gibbon/(whatever) this was...but we called him a "Gandalf Monkey" |
| Baby snow leopard in the "nursery" |
| baby lynx |
| Black rhino |
| Few things are funnier to me than giraffe tongues... |
| At first, Julia was just mesmerized by the lettuce... |
| "What's that, you say? A giraffe?" |
| "All I see is this little piece of---" |
| "---AH!" |
| "Isis" |
| Diablo, the honey badger |
| Feeding nectar to the lorikeets |
| Duck and her ducklings |
| Back to the lemurs... |
| Katy wasn't so sure... |
| We were instructed not to pet the lemurs...they don't like it and it can make them aggressive, apparently. BUT, we could let them crawl all over us! |
| Not to worry: Daddy rescued her from the scary, scary lemurs. :) |
| This baby loved Emily! |
We had THE best time! I'm so glad we went. :)
